Wet glue label

Printing house «Pechatny express – Flexographia» prints wet glue labels by flexography method. flexographic printing using UV-paints gives bright and sharp image with fine ruling and stable quality within the whole printing run including reruns. The variety of finishing operations allows our  printing house to produce wet glue labels on metallized paper, labels with foil stamping and hot stamping, labels with die-cutting, varnished labels, labels with a scratch-layer and other features. Die-cutting is performed by high-capacity rotary device. The piles of die-cut labels are then bundled.

Wet glue label is made of paper without any glue layer. It is attached to the packing after application of special glue on the back surface of the label, and possible by overlapping the label ends (turn over label on PET-bottles).

Wet glue label is delivered as a pile of single pieces and may be attached both automatically and manually depending on the number of pieces and production performances.

Wet glue label is most commonly used for the following goods:

  • labels for alcoholic beverages,
  • beer labels;
  • labels for soft beverages, juices, water;
  • canned food labels (canned vegetables and fruit, fish, stew, condensed milk, vinegar, oil, pet food);
  • labels for medical products;
  • labels for paints and solvents;
  • labels for household chemicals;
  • labels for construction materials (dry mixes, laminated flooring);
  • labels for transportation packing (corrugated box).

The main advantage of a wet glue label is its low cost for the large run in comparison to self-adhesive labels due to use of cheaper materials for wet glue labels.

The basic material for the wet glue label production is label paper. It can be of the three main types:

  • humidity non-resistant  paper is used for application on the tare that never occurs  in humid environment ( e.g., dry mixes, paints, some canned goods, etc.);
  • humidity-resistant  paper is used for application on the tare that may get wet in the process of production (beverages, canned vegetables, sauces and etc.);
  • humidity and alkali-resistant paper is used for application on the tare that may get wet and be exposed to chemicals in the process of production (e.g., beverages and household chemicals).

Besides, label paper differs in graphic properties. It can be high-gloss finished (cast-coated), metallized, stamp-printed, tinted paper and of other designs.

Metallized paper for a wet glue label in combination with UV-paint flexography gives presentable but economy labels for alcoholic and soft beverages, coffee, canned food and other products. The economy is achieved by the use of a low-cost material and stamp printing imitation.

For the most economy tare labels a common offset paper is widely used.
